Just northwest of San Diego sits Del Mar, Ca., the smallest city on the Pacific. This small community is on the beach and boasts the Del Mar Fairgrounds, world famous attraction for events and the county’s racetrack. Just over 4,500 residents, Del Mar has deployed its real estate from the bluffs above the surf and up into the hills. Many trees give the area a woodsy feel. The “beach colony” is a level area located just north of the center of Del Mar. It boasts some of the most expensive beach tract homes in Southern California. The historic center is a very exclusive community with one main passage, Camino Del Mar. Built mostly in the 1940’s and 80’s, many of the Del Mar homes have ocean views. In addition, laws prevent obstructing existing views and no drive-thru’s are allowed. This is a tight-knit community that is determined to maintain its small-town charm.
