Oceanside
Founded in the 1880’s to coincide with the arrival of the railroad between San Bernardino and San Diego, Oceanside is a beach community with over 3 ½ miles of coastline, a small-craft harbor housing some 900 pleasure boats, sport fishing operations, shops and restaurants.
A lot of the original land grant property was sold to government in 1942 for the establishment of Camp Pendleton Marine base. Ever since, Oceanside has been prosperous, as a result of the military, agriculture and tourism.
Today, Oceanside is a thriving community located just 35 miles north of San Diego and approximately 83 miles south of Los Angeles. California’s main highway, Interstate 5, runs through Oceanside, also Highway 78, providing southeast access to Interstate 15. Highway 76, running northeast, provides access to Interstate 15. The Los Angeles area is located to the north and the San Diego/Tijuana area to the south. Oceanside enjoys being near to all major Southern California destinations, and at the same time it maintains it’s coastal beauty and independence.
